Week 12 Downtown LA Sports Beats Report

Baseball
The Dodgers have a record of (12-8) and are currently in first place in their respective West division. Starting outfielders Carl Crawford and Yasiel Puig all joined starting pitcher Brandon McCarthy and reliever Joel Peralta on disabled list with injuries. McCarthy is out for the year with a torn UCL, Peralta is out with a dead shoulder, Puig is out for awhile with a hamstring tightness, which are tricky to deal with it and Crawford might be out for at least a month with an oblique strain. The Dodgers are in the middle of three game series with the San Francisco Giants (9-12) and are currently last place in the same division and are playing their last game of the series today and the Dodgers are sending Zack Greinke to mound to counter with Giants’ starter, Ryan Vogelsong. 


Basketball
The Clippers are currently in the first round of playoffs and are currently losing the series against the San Antonio Spurs, 3-2, and will be playing Game 6 on Thursday in San Antonio against the Spurs. 


Lakers are currently planning out their offseason by focusing on the NBA Draft, which is on June 25th, 2015.


Soccer
The Galaxy have announced that they are playing FC Barcelona and Club America among the teams in the international cup this summer. Meanwhile, the Galaxy tie with the New York Red Bulls, 1-1. The Galaxy have a record of (3-2-3) and are in 4th place in the Western Conference with 12 points. The Galaxy are playing the Colorado Rapids (1-2-5) and last place in the Western Conference this Saturday, May 2nd at 7:30 PST.

Week 11 Downtown LA Sports Beats Report

Baseball
The Dodgers ended their 7 game winning streak last night in San Francisco, losing 6-2, to the Giants. End of the rotation starter, Brett Anderson, gave up 4 runs in 4 innings and was given the loss. The Dodgers started off the season well, sweeping the Seattle Mariners and the Colorado Rockies back to back. The Dodgers then traded for Washington Nationals reliever Xavier Cedeno for cash considerations. Outfielder Chris Heisley was activated for today’s game and will start in center field for the Dodgers, giving rookie outfielder Joc Pederson a day off against tough lefty Madison Bumgarner. The Dodgers’ record is (9-4) and are in first place in the West Division and are in the middle of a series in the Bay area. The Dodgers are sending their three time Cy Young ace, Clayton Kershaw, to the hill and the Giants (5-10, last place in the West Division) are also sending their ace, Madison Bumgarner, in a counter move. 


Basketball
The Clippers finished the season with a (56-26) record and got second place in the Pacific Division are 1-0 against the San Antonio Spurs in playoffs in Los Angeles as the Clippers have home court advantage with the first two games in LA. The Clippers and Spurs play their second game of the series vs the Spurs tonight at 7:10 PST on TNT.


The Lakers are done for the season, finishing the season with a (21-61), the worst franchise record in Lakers history. The Lakers will be preparing for the NBA draft and free agency for their offseason. This Kobe Bryant’s 20th and, perhaps, last season in the NBA. The Lakers will be building a roster to better suit Bryant and help gear up for his 6th ring next season.


Soccer
The Galaxy tied the Vancouver Whitecaps FC last week, 2-2. The Galaxy are preparing for their next opponent in, the New York Red Bulls, on Sunday April 26th. The Galaxy’s current record is (3-2-2) with 11 points and are in 3rd place in the Western Conference.


Football Stadium
The Carson City Council unanimously approved the vote to build a $1.7 billion football stadium to bring the Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers to Los Angeles. The two teams still continue to pursue stadium plans in their cities respectively, Oakland and San Diego. With Carson plans approved, soon football will be back in Los Angeles in no time!

Week 10 Downtown LA Sports Beats Report

Baseball
Today is an important day in Major League Baseball history The Dodgers are coming off back to back nights of wins and are looking to pull off a sweep against the visiting American League West team, the Seattle Mariners. The Dodgers beat the Mariners twice in the 9th inning or later. The Dodgers had called up veteran pitcher David Huff to start yesterday’s game has now been designated for an assignment within the organization. The team, in turn, then called up young reliever Carlos Frias for pitching depth. The Dodgers send up new Dodgers starter, Brett Anderson, to the hill to counter with Taijuan Walker, a young starting pitcher with good potential to become a star. The Dodgers’ record this season is (5-3) and is in second place, 1 game behind the surprising Colorado Rockies. The Dodgers play tonight at 7:10 PST at Dodgers Stadium and it will be on channel ESPN2 and will not be blacked out in the LA area.


Basketball
The Clippers won their last game of the season yesterday beating their host, the Phoenix Suns, 112-101. The Clippers clinched a playoff spot in the Western Conference and also clinched home court advantage for the first round of playoffs.  The Clippers could face the San Antonio Spurs or the Dallas Mavericks in the first round depending on the tiebreaker with the Houston Rockets over the second or third seed. The Clippers have a record of (56-26) on par to the Rockets. Playoffs begin this weekend.

The injury-riddled Lakers are playing their last game of the season at home in Los Angeles against the Sacramento Kings. The Lakers that are out with injuries are the likes of guards Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, Jeremy Lin, Nick Young, Ronnie Price and Wayne Ellington. Also forward Wesley Johnson and rookies forward Julius Randle and guard Jordan Clarkson are also out for the season with injuries. The Lakers brought up rookie Vander Blue out of the Lakers’ D-League team, the D-Fenders. The Lakers are ending the season with the fourth NBA worst record of (21-61) and are in last place in their division and will miss playoffs.


Soccer
The Galaxy currently has a record of (2-2-2) and 8 points with their next game in Vancouver against Whitecaps FC on Saturday at 4 pm PDT. Gyasi  Zardes and Omar Gonzalez represented the United States in a game against the Mexico National team yesterday, winning 2-0.


Football Stadium
The move to LA project in Carson led by the San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders is moving forward the Carson City Council set to vote on after the signatures by the citizens have been verified. The Chargers and Raiders are competing against the St. Louis Rams and Inglewood.

Week 9 Downtown LA Sports Beats Report

Baseball
With Spring Training coming to a close, the Dodgers are packing their gear up and heading back to Los Angeles from Camelback Ranch to face off with the their freeway rivals in an expedition 3-game series, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, this weekend. There are still six more roster spots that still needs to be filled between the bench and the bullpen. Opening Day is April 6th versus the an old friend, former Dodger, outfielder Matt Kemp and the San Diego Padres at 1:10 PST.


Basketball
The Clippers are coming off a tough loss from yesterday against the first place Golden State Warriors, 110-106 at Staples Center. The team flew to Portland today to get ready for another tough playoff team in Damian Lillard and the Trailblazers. The Clippers are currently (49-26) and will be going to the playoffs.


The Lakers are also playing tonight against all-star forward Anthony Davis and New Orleans Pelicans. The Lakers are playing without their star players, guards Kobe Bryant and Nick Young and rookie forward Julius Randle. The Lakers also waived retired all-star guard Steve Nash to make room for guard Jabari Brown, who signed to a multi-year deal today with the Lakers. The Lakers are currently in last place in the West division with a record of (20-53).

Galaxy
The Galaxy took a bad sting losing to D.C. United,1-0, at the 67th minute. D.C. United handed the Galaxy their first loss. The Galaxy were without their star players in Robbie Keane and Gyasi Zardes, whom were all called for international duty over the weekend. The Galaxy (1-1-2, 5 points) will be playing their next game at Vancouver against  Whitecaps FC (3-1-0, 9 points) on April 4th at 7 pm PST.


Football Stadium
A committee headed by owners Jerry Jones of the Dallas Cowboys and Robert Kraft of the New England Patriots have made endorsements to have a football team in Los Angeles. A sign that could help push plans forward to bringing a NFL team to LA.
